International Campaign: Justice for Sankara
We kindly request your participation on the international committee against Impunity in the matter of the assassination of president Thomas Sankara, first president of Burkina Faso, who was assassinated eleven years ago.
We join his family as well as those of the 11 other victims in their plea for justice.
The regime which took power has, 11 years later, still not put forth any explanations regarding the events surrounding Sankara's death on October 15th, 1987. Furthermore, his death certificate states that he died from "natural causes".
Given the fact that the current president of Burkina Faso is now head of the OAU (Organization of African Unity), we plan to take advantage of this opportunity to call him to public account in this affair.
While certain actions and steps are already under way in our quest for justice, we anticipate running into several difficulties and ask for your help. We believe that your experience and expertise are essential skills in our fight for justice.
If we act now, we believe, our actions will help to create precedents against impunity for the perpetrators of political crimes in Africa.
Thomas Sankara gave his life working diligently with great discipline and passion, for African people in particular, and for humanity as a whole. This exceptional leader deserves your support in a number of ways: You can sit as a member of the International committee against Impunity in the matter of Thomas Sankara's death.
